In 1895, an English engineer, Mr. Edmund James Palmer Norton, first stepped on Mendoza soil during the building of a train which would connect Mendoza and Chile. Admired by the terroir, he planted vines imported from France, thereby giving origin to what was the first winery to the south of Mendoza river.

In 1989, Austrian businessman Gernot Langes-Swarovski acquired the winery, supporting his decision on his intuition and on the fact that he was convinced of the high potential of Argentina as well as of its international prospects. Astonished at the beauty of the region and the optimum conditions for vine growing, he chose Bodega Norton for being the only traditional Winery surrounded by its own vineyards.

In 1991 Michael Halstrick started a new phase of heavy investment, revamping and growth, which would pave the way for its great international expansion.

1990s: Bodega Norton embarks on the export of high-end wines, receiving the first international awards and honorable mentions in recognition of its quality.

21st century: Michael Halstrick, together with his team, achieves marked international growth.

In 2004, Michael Halstrick was awarded as the "Best Wine Producer of the Year" and Norton Wineyard as one of the 100 best admired companies in Argentina according to the two most important newspapers in Argentina (La Nación and Clarín).

In 2006 prestigious American managazine Wine Spectator nominates Bodega Norton as one of the top 20 wineries in the world.

Thanks to the top-notch technology and the passion of our people, international acknowledgements keep on coming even today, consolidating Bodega Norton as one of the leading and traditional wineries with the longest trajectory in Argentina and presence in the main markets worldwide. The well-known quality causes our wines to be distributed in over 60 countries around the world and enjoyed by millions of consumers every day.
