Great for team-building or an informal get-together with colleagues, friends and clients, tastings provide an opportunity to learn more about wine and have some fun along the way! Tastings are tailored to your brief and can cover:

An introduction to wine-tasting
Advanced tasting skills
“Blind” tastings
Themed tastings
Wine games and quizzes
Cost

Key cost variables are the number of people, cost of the wine and type and duration of the event. One bottle of wine serves 15 tasting portions and anything from 6-12 wines are shown. Please contact me for a quotation.

Duration

Typically, a wine tasting lasts for about 2-3 hours but it really depends on your brief – it can be shorter or longer. It can be delivered at any time of the day, although for obvious reasons evenings are more popular!

Case study

“We wanted to arrange a fun marketing event for a small but important group of clients. We asked Sarah to present a competitive wine tasting that would be suitable for connoisseurs and novices alike. This she did admirably, presenting 10 wines, representing a range of styles and grape varieties. Points were awarded for correctly identifying whether the wines were Old or New World, their country of origin and their retail price.

The competitive element (and the wine!) encouraged lively discussions between team members and the evening was a great success overall. Sarah’s great skill is in making wine appreciation fun and accessible. We have no hesitation in recommending The Wine Detective to others and we look forward to working together with Sarah again in the future.” – Sue Millar, Partner, Stephenson Harwood Solicitors.

ABOUT SARAH AHMED

A wine tasting course was the catalyst for my re-invention from lawyer to purveyor, raconteur and professional imbiber of wines. As they say, converts are always the worst and I love sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm about wine through The Wine Detective tastings and wine writing. There is no better way to combine pleasure and learning!

Having practised as a solicitor for 12 years, I started off my wine career with multi-award winning wine merchants Oddbins in 2000. I’ve since literally steeped myself in wine knowledge and struck out on my own in 2005 as The Wine Detective, travelling widely to keep up with developments and to discover exciting wines to write about and show at my tastings.

Today, I am an award-winning freelance wine writer, blogger, educator and judge, with a particular interest in the wines of Australia, the Loire, Portugal and South Africa. Additionally, I present tutored tastings, courses and events nationwide for a range of clients.

I regularly write for specialist wine magazines including: The World of Fine Wine, Harpers Wine and Spirit, Decanter, The Drinks Business and Imbibe and contribute to the annual guides Hugh Johnson’s Pocket Wine Book (for Portugal, Port & Madeira) and Oz Clarke Pocket Wine Book (for the Loire). Past contributions include The World Atlas of Wine (6th ed), and Hugh Johnson’s & Neil Beckett’s “1001 Wines you must drink before you die.”
