As well as producing delicious Champagnes in the cave of their beautiful 19th Century Champagne House, Didier Pierson and his English wife, Imogen Whitaker also run their house as a Chambre d’Hote and receive guests in some of their rooms all year round. The house is situated in the old village of Avize in the Cote de Blancs and is surrounded by a wooded garden which slopes up to meet the vineyards behind. Didier was born into the Champagne world as there are 5 separate Champagne houses within his family and his youth was spent going from one to another working and learning. Imogen sums up his passion very succinctly when she say that “Didier was born in a vat (not literally!) and will probably die in one as he is very emotionally attached to his vineyard and region!” When he inherited his vineyard from his grandparents he set to straight away and created his own marque, which incorporates both his and Imogen’s names. He is dedicated to the idea of “finesse” and loves experimenting with the “assemblage”, instead of just making the usual blanc de blancs typical of this part of the Champagne region.
