Languedoc Wines With Lord Morton (#297)
With your senses alert, tantilised by the arromas of the earth and red fruit get ready to discover the beautiful vines and wines of the Languedoc.
Languedoc~Roussillon, the largest vineyard in the world, is a land of contrasts, a patchwork of terroirs animated by the beating heart of the wine civilisation. Wine growing is in the regions distant history. The first vines were cultivated in Languedoc around 600 BC by the Greeks and Phocaeans and continued during the Roman occupation of Gaul. In 27 BC the Romans brought in their finest veterans and legions and settled them in huge wine estates as a reward for their hard work and legience. Indeed, 43 estates and Chateaux today were originally Roman villas. Grape growing here is a matter of geology, light stony soils which warm up quickly, carefully selected exposures, daily nurture and methods handed down from generation to generation. As elsewhere, the methods have changed with technical progress and machines are used in the vineyards, but values have hardly altered for the grower must still take heed of the balance between nature and culture. Whether you like your wine dry, sweet, still, sparkling, red, white or rose, you will always find one that matches your taste. Lord Lee will be your host for this unique wine experience. A lifetime in hospitality, extensive world travel and resident in Languedoc for over 5 years, give his Lordship a wealth of knowledge to share with everyone. A star of reality television shows ‘Wedding Stories’ and ‘The Entertainers’ Lord Lee is a true English eccentric!
