The Classic New Zealand Wine Trail is a road journey that serves up fantastic wine and food, as well as all kinds of cultural and adventure experiences. You’ll discover five of New Zealand’s most scenic regions, including three major wine-growing areas. Visit Hawke’s Bay for fabulous reds, Art Deco architecture and wildlife tours; explore the vineyards and historic towns of the Wairarapa region; shop, dine and be entertained in Wellington, New Zealand’s capital city; then catch the vehicular ferry to Marlborough, where you can go fishing, kayak the waterways of the Marlborough Sounds and find your way to more than 50 cellar doors. From Hawke’s Bay in the North Island to Marlborough in the South Island, this is the journey you can design to suit your taste.

Made without compromise, Marlborough wines are known for their extraordinary flavours and aromas. The sauvignon blanc grown here is acclaimed throughout the world for its breathtaking pungency and crisp herbaceousness. Pinot noir is also very happy here, a factor that has contributed to the region’s growing success with sparkling wines.

A memorable ferry journey takes you from Wellington over Cook Strait to the beautiful Marlborough Sounds, where you can bike, hike or kayak the famous Queen Charlotte Track. There are more than 50 wineries to visit around Marlborough; many offer the additional pleasure of a vineyard restaurant. Other attractions include a ground-breaking aircraft museum, fishing trips and all kinds of artisan food producers.

Must do!

Take a cruise in the Marlborough Sounds enjoying local wines served with fresh seafood.
Tour the wineries sampling New Zealand's internationally-acclaimed Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.
