Let Auburn Tours offer an alternative to "wine tasting" and driving. At the same time, enjoy an unforgettable experience travelling around this world renowned wine producing region, while being driven in a "very rare" 1935 Auburn convertible.

Pick up is in a "luxury 4WD" from the airport, train, bus depot, hotels, B&Bs or residential accommodation in the "inner" Adelaide metropolitan area.
Travel via the NE suburbs, through the picturesque village of Inglewood, past the Milbrook reservoir, charming Gumeracha and follow the upper Torrens Valley to the town of Birdwood (at this time, an option on visiting the National Motor Museum could be taken, but with less time available in the Auburn tour vehicle).
From Birdwood we travel onto Mt Pleasant, then via Eden Valley to historic Yalumba Winery for your first Barossa tasting experience. Here we transfer to the 1935 Auburn (top down weather permitting). A leisurely drive, with a luncheon stop and a number of wine tastings at some historical and boutique wineries, whereafter we return to Angaston and transfer vehicles for the return journey to Adelaide.

The 1935 Auburn Phaeton was lovingly restored by the current owner and tour operator. It was purchased "new" from an Adelaide agent in August 1935 by the operator's grandfather, Mr A.L.A. Wehr. Mr Wehr was still driving the vehicle up to the early 1950's, nearly ninety years of age and blind in one eye.

After his death, the vehicle was put into storage until the late 1970's when the restoration process began. Restorations to the vehicle were completed by 1999.

The business "Auburn Tours" began in the same year and to date many guests from all over the world have travelled in this rare automobile while savouring the delights of the unique wine region that is the "Barossa Valley".

Trevor Wehr

"Grandson of the original owner, the restorer and owner / operator of Auburn Tours"

Born in the small town of Freeling on the edge of the "Barossa", Trevor grew up in a farming and engineering environment. He trained and became a qualified motor mechanic with the Royal Automobile Association in Adelaide, and for 20 years managed his own automotive mechanical repair business. During that time he was involved in racing a Formula 3 "open-wheeler" and later managed a "superkart" team. Over the years he has owned numerous motorcycles and prestige automobiles, but his most satisfying achievement has been the restoration of his Grandfather's 1935 Auburn.

In 1999, with his wife Elizabeth, they returned to the Barossa Valley and settled in the town of Angaston. Having a passion for wine and the history of the "Barossa", they have included the Auburn in a unique "touring experience" of this world renowned wine producing region.
